The best part is that you get full use of the resorts facilities at reasonable backpacker prices. Each dorm room has it’s own en suite bathroom, air conditioning and full linens. So now our international travelers can come to Ponta D’ouro and experience Southern Mozambique

Our rates for the dorm rooms are R130 to R150 per person per night depending on the season.

Although you need a 4WD to get to Ponta D’ouro from the border doesn’t mean you can’t come. Let us tell you how…

From Johannesburg , take the N2 towards Jozini, follow the signs to Ingwavuma, Tembe Elephant Park and then Kwa-Ngwanase. The border is about 20km after the town of Manguzi.

There is now a parking lot on the Mozambique side of the border. Just drive through the border and pay MTS26 / R6 for Customs Papers. The area has 24 hour security and you do not need 4wheel drive to get to the parking area. Park your car at the parking lot for R30 per day for shaded parking or R20 per day for open parking, don’t worry it’s safe to leave your car there.

You will need to pre-arrange a pick up with us before you come. Once you have booked your pick, we suggest you also call when you are an hour away to make sure you are on schedule. Remember the border closes at 5pm, no exceptions.

Get There Tours is a shuttle service that does transfers from Durban to Kosi Bay and everywhere in between on Mondays & Thursdays. We offer the following service in both directions.

Durban to: (2 per minimum)

St. Lucia R325, Hluhluwe R350 , Mbazwana R400, Kosi Bay R450

Rates are quoted per person one way. Departs Durban at 7am and Departs Kosi Bay at 3pm.

We will bring you straight to the Kosi Bay border (Mozambique) where you can arrange a pick up from your accommodation.

Shuttle pick up from the Kosi Bay Border costs R80 per person each way.

We also have transport to/from Maputo out of Catembe on the other side of the bay from Maputo on Mondays and Fridays. This is ideal for those who want to remain traveling in Mozambique or if you are coming from that direction. The shuttle will cost R250 per person each way (minimum 2 people). Why not travel from Maputo and continue your way into South Africa via Kosi Bay. Contact us to make a booking.

You can get a 30 day tourist visa when you cross at the border. Expect to pay R189 for international travelers. South Africans do not require a Visa to enter Mozambique.

We have a small private kitchen for the backpackers at Kaya Kweru. There is a small grocery store and a market in Ponta that carries the basic supplies. We have a great restaurant and bar so no need to pack a bunch of food with you.There are several other restaurants in the areas that you can also choose from if you need a change of atmosphere.
